LegTrek, Inc. originated from a senior engineering capstone project at the University of California, Santa Barbara. The project was inspired by Lumi, a 7th grade girl who did not let her cerebral palsy define her limits. Lumi dreamt of a device that would reduce her reliance on a caregiver, allowing her more autonomy in her daily life and a future undefined by her diagnosis. Over the course of a year, our team brought Lumi's dream device to life. As she independently took her first step in the device, it was clear by the look on her face that we had made a huge difference. We realized that through innovation, we could bring autonomy into our patient's lives. Lumi's vision of a future accessible to everyone laid the blueprints for our company’s mission: to empower our users with independence by bringing novel assistive devices into therapy clinics and patient homes.
Kevin graduated with a B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in robotics and control systems. His technical interests include embedded systems, computer vision, control systems, and machine learning. His passion for robotics drove him to work on LegTrek as a technical lead for his senior engineering project. Currently, he works at Toyon Research Corporation as an Analyst and is responsible for physics simulations, vision systems testing, and hardware/software interfacing.
Brandon graduated with a B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in robotics and controls. He was a researcher at UCSB’s robotics lab studying robot locomotion. At MOOG, he worked on control system design for electronic systems. During his senior year, he worked on the LegTrek capstone project where he designed the user interface and system behaviors. Brandon is currently working at Northrop Grumman, developing embedded software for satellites.
Alice graduated with a B.S. in Biological Sciences and a minor in Philosophy at the University of California, Santa Barbara. She is currently pursuing a Master of Business and Science at Keck Graduate Institute with a concentration in Biotechnology Management and Operations. Her previous work includes developing strategic partnerships and customer acquisition methods for Covenant Health and analyses covering potential partnerships and the oncology competitive landscape for Amgen. At LegTrek, she manages regulatory affairs and operations.
Saloni graduated with a B.A. in Sociology and a minor in Technology Management. One of the main drivers for her passion for medtech is her friend’s history with multiple sclerosis (MS). Throughout her academic career, she held leadership positions in a number of club organizations, including Breaching Biotech, an organization focused on connecting students interested in the biotech space and industry leaders. She worked on marketing strategy at BIOPAC Systems and marketing operations and analytics at QASource. Currently she works as a Sales Specialist at Teladoc Health, a company focused on facilitating virtual care.
Peter graduated with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. His studies focused on robotic systems, leading him to join the LegTrek capstone project in his senior year. He currently works at Lumentum as a Mechanical Design Engineer where he designs and develops high precision test equipment suited for extreme environments. He has extensive experience in coordinating with machine shops, vendors, technicians, and engineering teams to take projects from concept to assembly.
